The Albanese Labor Government has ripped the funding from the Frankston to Baxter rail project.
$225 million has been taken from the Peninsula, with more than 80% of the funding reallocated into Labor held seats.
Despite being classified as metropolitan by the Victorian Government, the Mornington Peninsula remains one of the only metropolitan areas which is forced to rely on a V-Line service for rail transportation.
Duplicating and electrifying the Frankston to Baxter portion of the Stony Point line would have provided the first step to ensuring the Peninsula gets the public transport network we need.
Delivering a metro rail line extension south of Frankston would have helped connect business and industry, reduce road congestion, and allow locals to travel to work and get home sooner and safer.
The former Coalition Government fully supported this project and committed over $228 million to make it happen.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, endorsed the need to extend the electrified train line to Baxter when he was Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and said Labor would deliver it.
The Mornington Peninsula has been lied to and deceived by this Labor Government and our community deserves better.
