Over 1.4 million older Australians, aged 65 and up, will soon be forced to pay up to $640 more every year for private health insurance, in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis.
The Mornington Peninsula has a significant proportion of senior Australians. 27.8% of residents in Flinders are aged 65 or over – almost double the national average.
Now Labor wants to cut private health insurance rebates for every single one of them.
This hits our community harder than almost anywhere else in the country, because we have more older residents, and because Mornington Peninsula locals are more likely to hold private health insurance than the average Victorian.
If more people are pushed out of private health insurance, it will place even greater pressure on an already stretched public health system.
If you are aged 65 or over in the electorate of Flinders, I want to hear from you. Take the survey below and tell me: could you afford these extra costs?
Your response will help strengthen the case to hold Labor accountable and push back against these changes.
