The Somerville Recreation Reserve contains cricket practise nets, six tennis courts, two netball courts, three pavilions, two playgrounds, an oval, a Scout Hall, public toilets and a bowls club. 49 sporting teams call the Reserve home.
Yet many of these clubs are relying on facilities that belong in the last century.
That’s why an elected Coalition Government will commit $5,000,000 towards upgrading the Somerville Recreation Reserve.
With a growing population and increased demand for sporting and recreational spaces, we can only expect the number of local residents utilising the Reserve to rise.
With upgraded facilities, we can give our aspiring athletes the best possible chance to become the next generation of sporting superstars.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, only one in four Australians aged 15 years and older meet the recommended physical activity guidelines. But access to high quality sporting facilities can encourage greater physical activity, improving the health and wellbeing of locals.
The proposed upgrades incorporate the football, netball and cricket clubs, in addition to Somerville Scout Group, whose hall is in desperate need of repair.
Federal Member for Flinders, Zoe McKenzie MP, commented that “Somerville deserves world-class sporting facilities. This commitment by the Coalition will enable that to happen in this fast-growing part of the Mornington Peninsula.”
Ends.
