A re-elected Morrison Government will provide $5 million to the Mornington District Basketball Association (MDBA) to redevelop the Mornington Secondary College sporting facilities.
MDBA is the largest basketball association on the Mornington Peninsula with more than 5,000 participants and 380 junior and senior teams, delivering a range of community programs for people of all ages and abilities with existing facilities attracting more than 422,000 basketball related visits each year.
Liberal Candidate for Flinders, Zoe McKenzie said she was delighted to support local sporting organisations such as the MDBA.
“The $5 million commitment from a re-elected Morrison Government would allow Mornington Basketball to expand by developing four new court high ball facilities at Mornington Secondary College with extra car parking,” Ms McKenzie said.
“MBDA has seen rapid growth over the last seven years and these new courts and facilities will provide much needed extra capacity serving both the school and community.
“The redevelopment will reduce waiting lists for access to competitions, increase competition time flexibility and importantly, allow more younger girls to take part in basketball.”
Speaking following the announcement, MDBA Chair Antony Hirst said “Mornington Basketball welcomes the announcement of today’s commitment, and we look forward to working together to bring this important community project to fruition.
“Mornington Basketball has had a significant increase in the number of participants over many years and the new facilities will allow for greater access to competitions and programs in our region,” Mr Hirst said.
“The proposed new facilitates will provide much needed capacity for MBDA’s participants and also deliver required space for school sport and performing arts.
“We’d like to thank Minister Hunt and Zoe McKenzie for their on-going support for our important project.”
Only the Morrison Government has a real local plan to deliver for the people of Flinders and to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
