A re-elected Morrison Government will invest $10 million for much needed upgrades to local roads and intersections across the electorate of Flinders.
The $10 million commitment will fund seven priority projects identified in conjunction with the community and Mornington Peninsula Shire.
Local roads to be upgraded include:
- Reconstruction upgrade and widening – Bungower Rd between Western Port Hwy & Tyabb-Tooradin Rd, Tyabb & Somerville
- Reconstruction upgrade – Old White Hill Rd, Dromana
- Reconstruction upgrade – Derril Rd between Mornington-Tyabb Rd & Bentons Rd, Moorooduc
- Roundabout construction -Dundas St/ Collingwood St, Rye
- Roundabout construction – Collingwood St/ Lyons St, Rye
- Roundabout construction – Truemans Rd/ Field St, Tootgarook
- Roundabout construction – Forest Dve/ Somerset Dve, Mt Martha
Minister for Urban Infrastructure, Paul Fletcher, said ensuring the Peninsula had safe and modern road infrastructure was one of the Coalition’s top priorities.
“Following Zoe’s strong advocacy, I am delighted to join her today in Mt Martha and Somerville to announce that if the Morrison Government is re-elected, we will deliver priority funding for a number of important road projects across the Peninsula,” Mr Fletcher said.
“Zoe is the only candidate in Flinders with a plan for roads and transport.”
Liberal Candidate for Flinders, Zoe McKenzie, said “these upgrades will make it safer and faster to get to medical appointments, drop the kids off at school, access community services and get to work.”
“Following thousands of conversations with residents, no matter where I am, the message from the people of Flinders is clear: we need to invest in upgrading our roads to increase safety and reduce traffic,” Ms McKenzie said.
“My road funding package builds on the Coalition’s record investment to support local road improvements across the Peninsula including the Jetty Road overpass and the intersections of Forest Drive and Uralla Road with the Nepean Highway in Mt Martha.
“Despite the Jetty Road overpass being held up by the inaction of the State Labor Government, if elected I am determined to fight to get it built and delivered for the people of Flinders.
“If elected, I also personally commit to keep working with the local community and Shire to secure further investment to improve and upgrade our Peninsula roads.”
This commitment builds on the Coalition’s record investment to support local road and infrastructure improvements, including $20 million committed to the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council under the Roads to Recovery and the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure programs.
Only the Morrison Government has a real local plan to deliver for the people of Flinders and to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
